G203 LIGHTSYNC can be enough if a wired mouse fits your desk; original G305 is worth comparing if removing the mouse cable solves a real problem. Choose the connection first, then decide whether RGB lighting or battery upkeep matters to you.
This guide compares G203 LIGHTSYNC with the original G305 LIGHTSPEED, not G305 X SUPERLIGHT. Official US manufacturer pages were checked on October 5, 2026. We have not tested latency, tracking accuracy, switch feel or comfort. Purchase links may generate an affiliate commission for SEFP Journal without an additional charge to you.

Connection and power make the practical difference
| Buying question | G203 LIGHTSYNC | Original G305 LIGHTSPEED |
|---|---|---|
| Connection | Wired USB | LIGHTSPEED receiver wireless |
| Mouse power | Through the USB cable | One AA battery |
| Lighting | LIGHTSYNC RGB | No LIGHTSYNC RGB lighting |
| Listed DPI range | 200–8,000 | 200–12,000 |
Sources: current official G203 and G305 product specifications. A higher maximum DPI is a setting range, not evidence of a better result in your game.
G203: consider the cable path before the lighting
G203 lists a 2.1m cable, six programmable buttons and LIGHTSYNC RGB. Check whether you can route its cable comfortably around your keyboard, monitor stand and mouse area. A desk where the cable keeps catching is a different buying problem from a desk where wired use already works well.
Its advanced features require Logitech G HUB. If lighting customization is the main attraction, confirm you can install the software on the intended machine. Do not treat a product photo’s colours as proof that every customization is available without the app.
G305: wireless does not mean Bluetooth or rechargeable
Original G305 uses a LIGHTSPEED receiver and an AA battery. It is not the Bluetooth route for a tablet, and this comparison does not treat it as a USB-rechargeable mouse. Plan for the receiver’s connection and a replacement battery before choosing it to remove the cable.
Logitech’s 250-hour battery headline is a manufacturer claim, not our endurance result. Your battery and use conditions matter. If an interruption during work or play would be costly, keep a replacement available rather than planning around a guaranteed number of days.
Check the configuration software separately
The official G HUB page provides current software downloads and configuration information. Compare its current requirements with your computer, particularly when an older hardware page lists an older minimum OS. Basic mouse support and today’s configuration-app support are separate checks.
On a managed computer, confirm installation and customization permissions. We have not tested your operating system, game profiles or individual button assignments. Choose the hardware for a supported setup, then verify the controls you depend on.
Which connection is worth paying for?
Shortlist G203 if wired use is convenient, you prefer avoiding battery replacements and RGB is a useful extra. Try its shape and controls where possible; we do not claim the lighting changes reaction time or that its fit is best for every hand.
Shortlist G305 if cable-free movement is the reason to buy and its receiver/AA routine fits your setup. Include the whole local package in the comparison. Wireless branding alone is not proof of zero latency or superior tracking.
If Bluetooth or POWERPLAY is essential, our G305 vs G309 guide covers that different accessory and connection decision. Those features should not be transferred to original G305.
Purchase checklist
Match the exact model generation, check host ports and any required adapter, confirm current configuration support and compare the actual delivered package. Use the official product pages for current regional purchase options. A reachable listing does not guarantee stock, a fixed price gap or suitability for your hand.
FAQ: Does the higher DPI maximum make G305 the automatic winner?
No. The published maximum is a specification, while your preferred sensitivity, grip and connection routine determine what is useful. This guide does not report a measured performance winner.
