Choose WF-C510 if you do not need active noise cancellation and prefer physical buttons. Choose WF-C710N if reducing background noise is an important part of your daily listening and you prefer touch controls. Neither purchase should be justified by an assumed LDAC upgrade: both document SBC and AAC.
This is a buying decision between these two models, not a sound-quality ranking. Official Japanese product specifications and English help guides were checked on October 5, 2026. We have not tested ANC, fit, microphone quality or runtime. Purchase links may generate an affiliate commission for SEFP Journal without an additional charge to you.
ANC and ambient sound solve different needs
The official WF-C510 product page documents Ambient Sound Mode, which uses microphones to let surrounding sound into your listening experience. It does not document active noise cancellation. The WF-C710N page documents both ANC and ambient sound. Ambient mode on the cheaper model is not the same function as ANC on the C710N.
If your main problem is distracting transport or workplace noise, ANC is a concrete reason to consider C710N. If you mainly listen in quiet rooms or deliberately want surrounding sound available, C510 may cover the need. Fit and ear tips still matter. ANC does not guarantee silence or that every voice and warning will be handled as you expect.
Compare battery life using the same codec and mode
The English WF-C510 help guide, page 24 and WF-C710N help guide, page 27 give the following maximum headset operating times. These are music-listening figures for the earbuds, not case-inclusive totals.
| Music condition | WF-C510 maximum | WF-C710N maximum |
|---|---|---|
| AAC, ambient sound on | 8 hours | 8 hours |
| AAC, ambient/ANC inactive | 11 hours; no ANC function | 12 hours |
| SBC, ambient sound on | 7 hours | 7.5 hours |
| SBC, ambient/ANC inactive | 9 hours; no ANC function | 12 hours |
| AAC, ANC on | Not applicable | 8.5 hours |
| SBC, ANC on | Not applicable | 8 hours |
Both guides warn that equalizer, DSEE and Service Link settings shorten runtime; actual conditions also matter. C710N’s 12-hour inactive maximum should not be sold as its ANC-on time. Likewise, comparing C510’s eleven-hour AAC inactive maximum with C710N’s 8.5-hour ANC figure would not establish that C510 lasts longer under equivalent conditions. This table aligns documented modes but is not a controlled test conducted by us.
Controls, codecs and phone settings
The Japanese C510 specifications and C710N specifications list Bluetooth 5.3 and SBC/AAC for both. A Sony brand name or DSEE processing should not be confused with LDAC or aptX transmission support.
C510’s guide describes physical buttons; C710N uses touch sensors. Consider which interaction you want when adjusting playback and volume. We have not tested either with gloves, wet fingers or your exercise routine, so neither control type is declared universally easier.
Both English guides cover Android, iPhone, computer pairing and two-device multipoint. They also document Sound Connect for settings, including sound adjustments and firmware-related functions. Basic Bluetooth audio is different from having every app feature on every device; check the current app listing and your operating-system version. Multipoint is not a promise to mix two audio streams simultaneously.
Budget for charging and check water limits
The checked Japanese C510 listing explicitly excludes a USB Type-C cable, and its English guide calls for a commercially available cable. Check your selected regional box contents and compatible USB charging equipment instead of assuming everything is supplied. Compare total purchase cost, including anything you actually need, rather than an old launch price.
Both English guides specify IPX4 splash resistance for the earbuds and say the charging case is not water resistant. That is not an immersion, shower or swimming rating. Dry wet earbuds and contacts before charging. C710N’s ANC does not add a higher documented water-protection tier here.
Who should buy each model?
- WF-C510: ANC is unnecessary for your use, physical buttons appeal, and its mode-specific runtime is sufficient. Include the cable cost if you need one.
- WF-C710N: you want ANC as well as ambient mode, accept touch controls, and its current total price fits your budget.
- Keep your current earbuds: isolation, fit and battery already meet your needs. No measured sound-quality or microphone improvement has been established here.

Frequently asked questions
Can an app add ANC to WF-C510?
No ANC feature is documented for C510. Its ambient sound and equalizer controls do not establish an ANC upgrade.
Do both last eight hours with ambient sound?
Both guides list eight hours as the AAC ambient-on maximum. SBC figures differ, and real settings/use may reduce the listed times.
