Samsung Galaxy Buds Core vs FE: Check Your Phone Before Buying

Choose Galaxy Buds Core for its IP54 earbud rating and longer advertised total playback with ANC off. Consider Galaxy Buds FE if its current price is better or Bixby voice wake-up matters on your compatible Galaxy setup. First check your phone: ordinary Bluetooth audio and Samsung-specific settings are different purchase requirements.

This comparison covers Core SM-R410 and FE SM-R400, not Galaxy Buds3 FE SM-R420. Official regional product and support sources were checked on October 5, 2026. Compare the exact earbuds and listening mode

Samsung Colombia’s direct comparison supplies the Bluetooth, weight, battery and Bixby differences below. The IP ratings are separately documented by the Philippines Core product page and Samsung Germany’s model-specific water-protection guide.

These are manufacturer maximum totals including case recharges, not uninterrupted listening time. The comparison does not establish identical test conditions or a measured runtime winner. A buyer who uses ANC constantly should not treat Core’s 35-hour ANC-off headline as a 35-hour ANC-on promise. Bluetooth version alone also does not prove better sound or a more reliable connection.

What changes with your phone?

Core’s official product notes permit Bluetooth audio regardless of operating system. Its Galaxy Wearable settings require Android 11 or newer, at least 1.5 GB RAM and a Samsung account. On Galaxy phones running One UI 8.0 or later, settings move into the phone’s settings; earlier One UI uses Galaxy Wearable. Check the actual phone and current software before ordering.

The Philippines FE page states Galaxy smartphone/tablet compatibility with Android 8.0 or later and more than 1.5 GB memory. That older model’s requirement should not be substituted for Core’s current requirement. Its Bixby functionality additionally needs a connected smart device, network access and Samsung account; availability varies by language and region.

For iPhone buyers, Samsung’s iOS support guide separates Bluetooth audio from app control and lists only Buds+ and Buds Live for the Galaxy Buds iOS app. Neither Core nor FE is listed as an app-supported model. Do not buy either expecting the same Samsung app controls on iPhone; verify the controls you need before paying.

Auto Switch and AI are ecosystem features

Both linked Philippines product pages restrict Auto Switch to supported Samsung Galaxy phones/tablets with One UI 3.1 or later and Galaxy Watch4 or later, signed into Samsung accounts. This is not evidence of general simultaneous Bluetooth multipoint for an arbitrary laptop and phone. If that is your main requirement, seek an explicitly documented match for your devices.

Core’s Interpreter feature comes from a compatible Galaxy device, not an independent translation engine inside the earbuds. Samsung account, supported language packs and regional availability matter. An AI label is insufficient reason to replace working earbuds without checking your phone’s current feature support.

Water resistance does not cover the charging case

IP54 provides a stronger documented protection specification than FE’s IPX2; the X does not state a dust rating. Neither figure makes the case waterproof. Samsung’s protection guide excludes swimming and shower use and warns against exposing charging cases to moisture. Keep wet earbuds out of the case until properly dry; do not treat either model as swimming equipment.

Who should buy, and who should keep their earbuds?

  • Core: its earbud protection rating or longer advertised ANC-off total addresses a real need, and your phone supports the settings you want.
  • FE: the current offer is attractive, IPX2 meets your intended use, and compatible Bixby voice wake-up is useful. Its ANC-on total is not lower in the checked comparison.
  • Keep existing earbuds: fit, battery and connectivity already work. No measured sound-quality or ANC improvement has been established here.

Frequently asked questions

Is Galaxy Buds FE the same as Buds3 FE?

No. This FE is SM-R400. Samsung’s protection list separately identifies Buds3 FE as SM-R420; do not transfer its IP54 specification to the older FE.

Does Core always have longer battery life?

No. The documented total is longer with ANC off, but the ANC-on maxima are 20 hours for Core and 21 for FE. Actual use and test conditions matter.
