Shokz OpenRun vs OpenRun Pro 2: Charging, Water Resistance and Fit

Choose OpenRun if its price, fit and IP67 protection meet your needs. Choose OpenRun Pro 2 if its longer advertised listening time and app-controlled sound settings justify the extra cost. USB-C alone is not a sufficient reason to upgrade: the current US OpenRun store also offers a USB-C option.

This guide compares OpenRun with OpenRun Pro 2, not the original OpenRun Pro or OpenRun Air 2. Official product and support sources were checked on October 5, 2026. We have not measured sound, call quality, comfort or battery life. Purchase links may generate an affiliate commission for SEFP Journal without an additional charge to you.

Start with the exact charging variant

The official US OpenRun store lets buyers select Standard or Mini and Magnetic Induction or USB-C charging. It shows separate box-content sections for magnetic and USB-C cables. That is why an older magnetic-cable description should not be applied to every current OpenRun offer. Verify the chosen variant and included cable before checkout, especially when buying old stock or from another region.

The US OpenRun Pro 2 offer includes USB-C charging. A buyer who already owns a magnetic OpenRun should not expect the same proprietary cable to charge a Pro 2. Conversely, compare a current USB-C OpenRun offer before paying more simply to reduce cable types.

More listening time is a specification, not our test result

The OpenRun feature page advertises eight hours. The Pro 2 feature page advertises up to twelve hours and a five-minute charge for up to 2.5 hours of listening. Its laboratory footnote specifies 25°C ± 2°C, WAV audio, 75% volume and other features at defaults.

We have not verified matching test conditions for both models. Treat the longer Pro 2 maximum as a planning reference, not a guaranteed four-hour gain on your runs. Volume, calls, settings and battery age can change practical runtime. If your existing OpenRun comfortably finishes your sessions, its battery headline alone does not establish a need to replace it.

Protection ratings and open ears have practical limits

OpenRun’s official feature page explicitly says its IP67 model is not intended for swimming. The Pro 2 support guide describes IP55 rain/sweat resistance and excludes seawater, saunas and shower use. The premium model does not have the higher listed protection rating; neither should be bought as an underwater player. Let wet headphones and charging contacts dry before charging.

Both leave the ears open. That does not guarantee you will hear every vehicle or warning: audio level and surroundings still matter. If your goal is to block a noisy commute, check a different headphone design rather than assuming an open-ear sports model provides in-ear-style isolation.

Multipoint is available on both

The official UK OpenRun FAQ documents connection to two devices through a button sequence. It also explains that this does not mix audio from both simultaneously and may not work with every device or transmitter. Follow the model’s setup instructions rather than buying Pro 2 on the assumption that regular OpenRun lacks multipoint.

Pro 2’s feature page provides Shokz app downloads for iOS and Android and app-based multipoint management. Its support page says basic operation works without the app. Pairing for audio therefore differs from using a phone app for settings; check current app availability and requirements for your phone. The manufacturer describes Pro 2’s DualPitch as a combination of bone and air conduction, and the app’s Classic mode can switch off its air-conduction driver. These design options are not our proof of a sound-quality winner.

Which should you buy?

  • OpenRun: the selected charging type and band fit work, eight-hour advertised playback is sufficient, and you prefer its price or IP67 specification.
  • Pro 2: twelve-hour advertised playback or its app/sound-mode options solve a concrete need, and IP55 is suitable for your use.
  • Keep your current pair: its fit, connection and runtime already meet your needs. No hands-on comfort, safety or audio improvement has been established here.

Check the current US offers for OpenRun and Pro 2, including selected size, cable, final price and return terms. Fit with glasses, headwear and your usual movement needs a personal check; choose by the model-specific size guide rather than assuming Mini is a different feature tier. Stock, colors and regional terms can change. If isolation matters more than open ears, see our separate Sony WH-CH520 vs WH-CH720N guide.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need Pro 2 for USB-C?

Not necessarily. The checked US OpenRun listing includes a USB-C charging selection. Confirm the exact offer; magnetic versions remain a separate choice.

Is Pro 2 only bone conduction?

Its normal DualPitch design combines bone and air conduction. The official support guide describes a Classic app mode that disables the air-conduction driver.
