UH700 can be enough if you need seven USB data ports; consider UH720 when two additional dedicated charging ports would simplify your desk. UH720 is not a nine-data-port hub. Count the devices that need a computer connection separately from the devices you only want to charge.
This guide uses TP-Link’s official UK product pages checked on October 5, 2026. Confirm your regional hardware version and package before ordering. We have not tested simultaneous device loads, transfer speed or phone charging times. Purchase links may generate an affiliate commission for SEFP Journal without an additional charge to you.

Which devices need data, and which only need power?
List keyboards, mice, storage and other peripherals that must communicate with the computer. Then make a second list of devices that only need charging at this desk. This prevents you from counting UH720’s extra charging sockets as additional connections for drives or other data peripherals.
If seven data connections solve your problem and you already have a suitable charger, UH700 may be sufficient. If separate charging sockets reduce competition for those connections, UH720 is worth comparing. Neither model has more than seven listed data ports in this comparison.
Check the host cable and power package
These are USB-A downstream hubs with a Micro-B input on the hub, not a promise of a USB-C laptop docking connection. Match the included cable and your computer’s port; if an adapter is needed, include it in the total quote and verify its data capability.
The listed power supplies differ. Keep the correct supply with the exact hub and follow its instructions rather than swapping adapters based on a similar connector. Check the regional plug and the seller’s complete package before importing. We have not tested operation with every combination of peripherals or power source.
Transfer and charging headlines are not measured results
Both product pages advertise USB 3.0 transfer rates up to 5Gbps and qualify actual transmission speed by the connected device. This is not a guarantee that every connected drive transfers at that rate, or that seven simultaneous transfers each achieve it. Check the computer, storage and connection path you actually use.
UH720’s charging sockets are listed at 5V/2.4A. Do not assume that this establishes support for the fast-charge protocol or wattage requested by your phone or laptop. Charging time depends on the device and setup; we do not claim a current phone will match an older manufacturer example.
Operating-system and peripheral checks
The UK pages list Windows, Mac OS X and Linux systems and describe driver-free hub use. That does not establish full driver support for a peripheral you connect through the hub. A scanner, audio device or other accessory may still have its own compatibility requirements.
For a work computer, check permission to use the intended peripherals. Test the workflow during a suitable return period where possible, especially if multiple devices will be active together. Do not replace a setup that already works solely because another hub has more visible sockets.
Who needs the extra charging ports?
Choose UH700 when seven data ports and its confirmed local package meet your needs. Compare UH720 when the two dedicated charging ports address a recurring desk problem and the actual extra cost is worthwhile. Both require space for the hub, cable and supplied power adapter.

Page availability does not guarantee stock or performance. If you need a separate USB-C charger instead, our Anker 715 vs 735 guide covers that different purchase.
FAQ: Does UH720 give me nine ports for USB drives?
No. Its listed output is seven USB 3.0 data ports plus two charging ports. Plan your data-device count around seven.
