Tapo P100 vs P110: Do You Need Energy Monitoring?

P100 can be enough when you only need supported on/off control and schedules; choose P110 if measuring the connected device’s energy use is part of the decision. A schedule and an energy reading solve different problems. Decide what information you will actually use before paying extra.

This guide compares standard UK Tapo P100 and P110, not P100M, P110M or a different country’s electrical version. Official manufacturer pages were checked on October 5, 2026. We have not tested metering accuracy, reliability or savings. Purchase links may generate an affiliate commission for SEFP Journal without an additional charge to you.

P100 can solve a timing problem without measuring energy

If your goal is switching a suitable lamp on a schedule or turning a supported device off through the app, decide whether measurement would change anything you do. A feature you never check may be less useful than a complete package at a suitable local price.

P100 does not gain energy monitoring because the app supports that feature on other plugs. Match the exact model on the listing rather than buying a similarly named multi-pack and assuming the information screens will be identical.

P110 is useful when the reading informs an action

The official energy-monitoring guide explains real-time power, usage history and estimated electricity costs for supported plugs. P110 is worth comparing if you want to inspect one connected device’s consumption before changing your routine.

Any cost estimate depends on the tariff and settings you enter. It is not proof of your whole-home bill or a guaranteed saving from buying the plug. Decide what you will do with a reading, then compare the actual price difference; we do not claim the upgrade pays for itself.

Check region, device load and the network

These UK product pages specify 220–240V and the load limits shown above. They describe indoor use, and P110’s page expressly excludes EV charging and motors/compressors above 1/6 HP. Match the exact regional plug and the appliance’s load characteristics; do not treat a wattage headline as approval for every device.

Both use 2.4GHz Wi-Fi. Check that network access and the current Tapo app requirement are suitable for your phone. An old OS minimum on a product sheet does not guarantee that the current app can be installed on every older phone.

Local control is different from control while away

The manufacturer FAQ says initial configuration uses Tapo before linking Alexa or Google Home. Remote control needs a working internet connection. It also describes local Tapo control without internet, while local Smart Actions need a hub. Do not treat basic hub-free setup as proof that every automation works locally without extra hardware.

Check the actual scenario you need: a schedule, app control on your network or control while away. We have not tested your router, app permissions, firmware or voice platform. If another person depends on the device staying powered, agree the switching routine before setting it up.

Which version and package should you order?

P100 can be enough for supported switching and timing when readings are unnecessary. P110 can justify a premium when its measurements help you make a specific decision. Confirm the socket count in the offer so you compare equal-size packs.

If Matter is essential, our separate P110 vs P110M guide addresses that version choice. Do not add an M-model feature to a standard P110 simply because the names are similar.

Use the linked manufacturer product pages for current regional purchase routes. Confirm model/version, package count, actual price, local warranty and returns. A reachable listing does not guarantee stock or savings.

FAQ: Can I add energy monitoring to P100 by choosing another app?

The manufacturer lists P100 without energy monitoring and P110 with it. If measurement is required, buy a confirmed model with that capability rather than assuming an app change provides it.
