Kobo Libra Colour vs Clara Colour: Do You Need Buttons or a Stylus?

Clara Colour can be enough for straightforward colour reading; Libra Colour is worth comparing when physical page buttons or supported pen notes solve a specific problem. Decide whether you will use those extras before adding a stylus and case to your budget.

Choose screen size by the pages you read

A larger diagonal can be useful when you want more room for a page, while a smaller reader may fit your carrying routine better. Try a representative novel page and any illustrated material you actually read. Compare font size, margins and how often you zoom rather than assuming one screen measurement guarantees comfort.

Both listed screens use Kaleido 3. This guide does not promise tablet-like colour, identical contrast in every room or that every large PDF will be convenient on either device. If your main problem is small text in a fixed-layout document, check that exact file before committing to the purchase.

Buttons are a reason to compare Libra even without a pen

Libra Colour has physical page-turn buttons and supports left/right screen rotation and landscape mode. If you prefer a button under your thumb, inspect the grip and button placement in person where possible. A button-equipped design does not mean it will fit every hand better.

If tapping to turn pages already works for you, you may not need to pay for a different control layout. Consider how you hold a reader on your commute or in bed, and choose the control method you expect to use most often.

A stylus is an extra purchase, not a Clara upgrade

Libra Colour supports Kobo Stylus 2 for supported mark-ups and integrated notebooks; Kobo lists the pen separately. Clara Colour is not compatible with Kobo Stylus. Buying that accessory does not turn Clara into the Libra pen-enabled model.

For someone who mainly reads, the pen may be an unnecessary first purchase. If handwriting is essential, include the compatible pen and any preferred storage case in the total quote. A stylus shown beside a reader in a product image does not establish what your selected package includes.

Storage and your existing library

Libra’s 32GB versus Clara’s 16GB is a capacity difference. Your own files determine how much space you need; an illustrated library or downloaded audio can have different requirements from plain-text novels. Avoid treating a manufacturer’s book-count estimate as a guarantee for your collection.

Before switching ecosystems, check the source and format of the books you want to read, any applicable rights restrictions and your library’s supported lending service. We have not tested importing your files or confirmed every regional lending arrangement.

Who can save on extras?

Shortlist Clara Colour if colour reading is the goal, the smaller screen fits your routine and pen notes are not needed. Shortlist Libra Colour if its buttons, larger screen or supported handwriting address a recurring need. Choose the reader first, then add only the accessories required for that use.

Use the official product pages for current purchase options. Compare the complete regional package, delivery eligibility, warranty and returns. We do not guarantee stock or a fixed price gap. FAQ: Must I buy a stylus with Libra Colour?

Its pen support is a separate reason to choose it, and Kobo Stylus 2 is sold separately. If your purchase is driven by its screen or buttons, decide whether handwriting is useful before ordering the extra accessory.
