Start with your phone and recording app, then compare the complete kit price. Insta360 Flow 2 Pro and DJI Osmo Mobile 8 both offer continuous pan and native Apple DockKit tracking, but their documented iPhone requirements and accessory packages differ. Android buyers should evaluate app-based or accessory-based tracking rather than DockKit.
This is a purchase-decision comparison based on official documentation checked on October 5, 2026. We have not run a head-to-head stabilization, autofocus, tracking-success or battery test. Manufacturer feature availability does not establish which gimbal produces better footage in your scene.

For iPhone: verify the mode, not just the DockKit badge
Flow 2 Pro lists a lower minimum iOS version for DockKit. Insta360 says iOS 18 expands native Camera modes and controls, excluding Pano and Timelapse. DJI instructs Osmo Mobile 8 users to close Mimo and remove the Multifunctional Module when using DockKit. The phone and operating system are only the first checks; your chosen app must also support that tracking route.
Our recommendation is to write down your actual workflow: for example, rear-camera self-recording in a particular camera app, or a video call. Confirm the app and mode in the manufacturer’s guidance before buying. The Flow third-party app guide helps separate tracking from camera-button support. Do not assume either gimbal’s shutter, zoom and lens-switching controls work identically in every app.
For Android and external apps: include the accessory cost
Apple DockKit does not supply the Android tracking route. The Flow AI Tracker and DJI’s 8-generation module provide accessory-based tracking for people, cats and dogs outside the makers’ recording apps. Insta360’s tracking comparison distinguishes the tracker from its in-app object and multi-person tracking. DJI likewise distinguishes the module from Mimo’s people, pet and object tracking in its FAQ.
A Flow Standard Bundle without the tracker is therefore a different shopping basket from a package with external tracking included. Compare the body, clamp, required tracker or module, any audio components, and the delivered total. Our advice is to avoid buying extra accessories merely because the bundle looks more complete: identify the task each accessory solves first.
Compare weight and runtime on equal terms
Flow’s hardware table lists approximately 357 g for the Pro gimbal and 25 g separately for its clamp. DJI lists approximately 370 g including the built-in tripod, clamp and module. Comparing 357 g directly with 370 g would omit different accessories. For carrying comfort, weigh the complete setup you intend to use, including your phone; we have not measured that setup.
Both makers list approximately 10-hour baseline runtime under stationary, balanced conditions without added tracking accessories; Flow also specifies its ring light off. DJI lists approximately 5 hours with module tracking and no fill light, or 4 hours with maximum fill light. These figures cannot prove equal battery life during a moving shoot or an advantage for one tracker-equipped kit.
Who should choose each one?
- Consider Flow 2 Pro: its documented phone fit or verified iPhone workflow suits you, and the correct complete bundle is the better local purchase.
- Consider Osmo Mobile 8: your phone/app route is supported and the selected module-equipped package covers your outside-app needs at an acceptable total.
- For either: prioritize the exact app, required controls and kit contents. Continuous pan alone does not distinguish these two bodies.
- Wait: your main camera mode, phone fit or required accessory is unconfirmed. Ask manufacturer support about that combination before ordering.

FAQ
Which is better for Android? There is no supported universal winner from these specifications. Check your exact phone’s recording modes and whether your chosen app needs the external tracker or module, then compare complete costs.
Can I choose by the advertised tracking algorithm alone? We recommend against it. Availability, phone/app restrictions and accessories affect the workflow; algorithm names are not a shared, measured performance benchmark.
Is the cheapest body listing the cheapest usable setup? Only if it includes everything your workflow needs. Compare the package and delivery total, rather than assuming a missing tracker will be free or interchangeable.
